Durban Eye Hospital

The Story

Being an Ophthalmologist, Dr Moosa saw a gap in the KwaZulu Natal market for a specialized eye care facility and in 2009, Dr Moosa and his team embarked on a venture to create this facility for his patients and the wider community.

A vision that took time to perfect, many long hours to plan and months to get the relevant approvals, in 2014, the construction of this new facility, The Durban Eye Hospital, began at 38 South Road, Overport, Durban. Together with this facility, Dr Moosa also created a sub-acute facility, Humana Health Care, within the same building.

Due to open mid 2017, Dr Moosa’s aim is to continue to provide patients with skilled, efficient eye-care, whilst giving them a ‘one stop shop’ for all their Ophthalmic needs.

At the Durban Eye Hospital, Dr Moosa and his dedicated, specifically trained staff, are committed to providing comprehensive eye care services. With their expertise with pre and postoperative care, this facility will strive to ensure the very best in-patient care.

What is it?

The Durban Eye Hospital is a day hospital, with 2 operating theatres, fully fitted with the latest state-of-art technology & equipment.

Dr Moosa’s specializes in anterior segment surgery as well as refractive surgery and patients will now be afforded the benefit of having their procedure done at this specialized, modern theatre complex as opposed to a fully-fledged general hospital.

Qualified trained ophthalmic nurses will be on hand to assist, which will provide the patients with a more specialized care and experience than they would in another facility.

Together with the Durban Eye & Laser Clinic, patients will now have a much smoother and quicker consult to surgery process.

With Dr Moosa being one of the founders and still currently associated with the Into The Light Foundation, The Durban Eye Hospital is proud to announce that it will be providing free cataract removal surgery for patients within the Into the Light Foundation.
